

James Lobban, Conductor of the Aberdeen Bach Choir for 37 years, died in the early morning of Friday 10 November 2006 after a long illness. Tributes to James, whose contribution to the life of the Choir is incalculable, have been written by Robert Wilson and Alison Shiel. An obituary by Gordon Casely appeared in The Herald on 15 November 2006. Alan Falconer, Minister at the Cathedral, delivered a moving tribute at the funeral service held in St Machar's Cathedral on 16 November 2006.
Gordon Jack took up his post as Musical Director in August 2006.
Rehearsals take place every week in St Margaret's School from 7:30 until 9:30 pm. On the weekend of the performance, rehearsals will take place in St Machar's Cathedral at 6:30 pm on Saturday 28 April and at 2 pm on Sunday 29 April.
A rehearsal CD or Tape ChoraLine Recording of the Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 is available for all parts from Music Dynamics. Each part is on a separate CD or tape. The cost is £10 for a CD and £8.50 for a tape, including postage, and online payment is accepted.

Claudio Monteverdi: Vespers of 1610
On Saturday 3 March, 2007 at 7.30pm St Machar’s Cathedral will host a musical celebration for the life of James Lobban.
Taking part in the programme will be the musicians who have shared many concerts with James - the Choir of St Machar’s Cathedral, orchestra, choir and saxophone quartet from Hazlehead Academy, Aberdeen Bach Choir and Aberdeen Sinfonietta.
The musical celebration will include music by J.S. Bach, Leighton, Rutter and Shostakovich, and will conclude with a combined performance of Handel’s Zadok the Priest.
Doors open at 6.45pm.
